The mission of LiveWell is to promote worksite wellness by providing guidance, ideas and the tools needed
to help employees of the Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust (MCIT) member organizations achieve and
maintain healthier lives.
LiveWell provides program ideas, resources and tools for MCIT members wanting to implement or enhance
their own worksite wellness programs that target disease prevention and raise employee awareness about
personal health and wellness. The ideas, resources and tools in the LiveWell website will help MCIT
members monitor activity, provide encouragement and create a sense of community when pursuing activities
and programs that enrich employees’ lives and wellness.
Health education and lifestyle changes improve health. Working adults spend most of their waking hours
in the workplace. Therefore, worksite wellness programs are a natural place to introduce and excite
employees about wellness and healthier lifestyles and behaviors. For worksite wellness programs to be
successful, the activities and program must be tailored to the specific needs of employees.
The information, resources and tools provided on this website help bridge the gap between ideas,
available resources and your program.
Background Information
Research conducted by the US Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) shows that out-of-pocket
health costs are highest for people with chronic health conditions. For example, a sixty-five-year-old
with a serious chronic illness spends $1,000–$2,000 more per year on health care than a similar adult
without the condition (The Lifetime Burden of Chronic Disease Among the Elderly, Health Affairs: The Policy
Journal of the Health Sphere, September 2005). The good news is that nearly all chronic diseases are
preventable. That means through proper education and resources, lifestyle changes can impact overall health
and wellness – saving you and your employees money by lowering healthcare costs.
The LiveWell website was created to offer MCIT members information and resources to help the employees
of their own organizations be healthier and have the confidence, support, tools and knowledge to live a
healthier life.
