WELCOME to Understanding Wellness!

This section of the website will provide an overview of worksite wellness. In this section you will find resources that address:

  • The definition of wellness
  • The benefits of wellness programs
  • Considerations for organizing your wellness program
  • Considerations when budgeting for your wellness program

Wellness is a lifestyle shaped by the choices and behaviors that directly or indirectly affect your personal health. It is a life-long process of enhancing your physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual and environmental wellbeing.

Promoting wellness at work can help employees appreciate the importance of the behavioral changes needed to sustain personal health and wellness. Key factors supporting sustainability include:

  • People. More than 100 million Americans spend approximately one-third of their lives at work.
  • Place. A worksite is a defined physical environment within which changes can be introduced.
  • Culture. Change is less likely to stick without the support of your organization's cultural "norms".

And…the bottom line benefit is that healthier employees equate to lower organizational and operational costs.
